Archaeology Field School Description


A six-day course on three consecutive weekends in the Potomac River about 80 miles southeast of Washington DC. The course will cover the basics of underwater reconnaissance by sidescan sonar (including search design and execution, and target recognition) and site mapping on scuba in low visibility on three wreck sites (including offsets, trilateration, and Direct Survey Method.

We will also offer the same course on six consecutive weekdays, 4-9 October 2010. Free 64-page training manual.

The schedule is subject to weather.

Prerequisites:
-- diving certification (AOW or better),
-- proof diving and medical insurance,
-- liability waiver, and
-- a signed agreement not to disturb sites or disclose their locations.
