ARCHAEOLOGICAL FIELD EXPERIENCE!April 12th – May 3rd 2010(Gabbie Kylie Foundation, National Trust of Australia (W.A.))
What you will do!
Archaeological survey of Cape Arid National Park
Mapping of stone arrangements
Artefact identification, recording and analysis
Archaeological mapping and survey at the complex heritage place – Tooklejenna (Israelite Bay, east of Esperance)
Historical archaeological recording of 1800s cottage
Archaeological Survey at Woody Island
Weed and pest control for Island conservation
Maritime Archaeology Workshops and Experiences
COORDINATORS: Doc Reynolds (Cultural liaison and logistics)David Guilfoyle (Archaeologist, Applied Archaeology Australia) Ross Anderson (Maritime Archaeologist, WA Maritime Museum) Kevin Hollar (USA Surveyor)
COST: Cost is $3,500 per person and includes accommodation, food, and equipment for the field school.
Note: Participants must find their own way to and from Esperance.
SCHEDULE: Arrive in Esperance for cultural awareness and field school workshop on the first day then travel by 4WD bus along the coast to various locations with the Traditional Owner community and specialists. All camping equipment and food is provided. Experience the amazing coastline, islands, and outback woodland while learning skills in archaeological survey, mapping, excavation, GPS navigation and recording, stone artefact analysis, community engagement, and land care.
