The successful applicant will be responsible for managing cultural resources projects and staff and will be based in the Glen Allen, Virginia office.  The position will require management of projects, project budgets and schedules, as well as the local oversight of a team of 12 cultural resources staff based primarily in the Glen Allen office.  Responsibilities will include consultation with and representation of clients before local, state and national review agencies, writing and editing technical reports, preparing and managing project budgets, and developing and implementing archaeological research designs. All phases of cultural resources management projects may be expected and responsibilities will include client contact, developing project scope and budgets, tracking schedules and deliverables, and coordinating logistics.  The successful candidate will oversee the cultural resources staff in Glen Allen and work with Project Managers to assign workloads, responsibilities, and tasks; review reports and other deliverables for consistency and quality, direct marketing efforts, provide mentoring to staff, and coordinate with other senior staff.  Must have exceptionally strong writing and verbal communication skills and the ability to manage numerous projects and coordinate with staff in local and remote locations.

 
Your Duties:
  • Prime author on Phase I, II and III reports
  • Prime author on Treatment Plans for Data Recovery
  • Proposal preparation, budget management
  • Negotiation of stipulations in MOA and writing an MOA
  • Federal, state, and local agency coordination and SHPO consultation
  • Coordination with other Senior Staff in multiple Stantec offices, representing multiple disciplines
  • Represent clients at Public Meetings, such as Planning Commission or Town Hall meetings
  • Marketingwillingness to assist in promoting cultural resources management as value-added services through the company and in promoting cultural resource management services to existing and potentially new clients
  • Monitor program progress, staffing, utilization of staff, and general program oversight
  • Work with Project Administrators to manage project budgets, prepare monthly invoices and accounting statements
  • Work with Program Manager to prepare project/workload forecasts and manage backlog
  • Assist with annual marketing budgets, client retention strategies
  • Review and approve expenses and purchases, staff hires, conduct annual reviews
  • Set and enforce policy and procedures
  • Provide QA/QC and approval for all deliverables
  • Travel may be required
 
Your Capabilities and Credentials:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of  Section 106 compliance as well as other applicable regulations
  • Knowledge of  Phase I, II and III archaeological excavations/assessments, architectural history, and view shed analysis
  • Must excel in project and data organization
  • Knowledge of logistics coordination
  • Ability to attract and retain clients
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and understanding of graphics and GIS software and integration into CRM
  • Ability to work well with a variety of staff at different levels
  • Must have a good driving record and valid driver’s license.
    Prior to employment with Stantec the candidate must successfully pass a physical and drug/alcohol screening.

 

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

  • MA or MS degree in anthropology or archaeology or closely related field
  • Must meet Secretary of Interior Standard for Principal Investigator
  • Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA) designation preferred

PRIOR EXPERIENCE:

  • At least 10 years’ experience in cultural resource management involving Section 106 compliance
  • At least 7 years of project management experience
  • Must have demonstrated project management and client relation skills
  • Must have demonstrated Project Manager/Principal Investigator experience
  • Virginia and Mid-Atlantic region experience a plus
