Commonwealth Heritage Group desires to fill the position of Project Archaeologist in either our Alexandria, Virginia, or our Tarboro, North Carolina, office. This is a mid-level position that requires experience in conducting, under the direction of a Project Manager, Phase I surveys, Phase II evaluations, and Phase III data recoveries.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate at least two years field experience in managing in-house support staff, sub-consultants, and temporary field employees, including multiple field teams. Knowledge of computers and GPS equipment is critical and knowledge of GIS is a plus. Applicants should have a minimum of an M.A. in anthropology/archaeology. We desire an individual with a background or experience in prehistoric and historic archaeology. Prior experience in the Middle Atlantic region (specifically Virginia, Maryland, and District of Columbia) and North Carolina. Areas of analytical expertise are open, but demonstrated ability to conduct artifact analyses and write key sections of reports (methods, results, artifact analyses) is a must.
